This three-year cohort program prepares educational researchers who are interested in working as educational leaders in K-12, higher education, or business environments. The program focuses on action research projects that begin in the first year of study and culminate with the dissertation.

The Doctoral Program in Leadership and Innovation values learning and applied scholarship that is rigorous, useful, and situated in communities of practice. Our doctoral students are accomplished leaders in education who co-create learning communities to transform themselves into applied researchers and activist scholars. Our doctoral students, supported by faculty and peers, conduct and report on a series of action research studies in their workplaces, culminating in the doctoral dissertation. Successful graduates make a positive difference in their local workplaces through research in action and commit to continuing systematic study of their professional practice.

Field experience is embedded in all required courses of the doctoral program. Students engage in multiple on-site research cycles to implement change and study the results.

Admissions for the 2010 cohort are now open.

Application requirements include transcripts from all prior higher education institutions attended and recommendations from three people. Final candidates for admission will be invited for an on-campus interview. No GRE or other test is required. See the Practical Questions section for more details on the program.
