Clinical experiences and student teaching for the rural Professional Development School (PDS) programs occur entirely at partner district sites. The rural PDS programs are full-time, 24-month, evening programs that require summer teaching experiences.
Prospective students prepared to become exceptional new teachers through the Chinle, Douglas, Gadsden/San Luis, and Sells Indian Oasis-Baboquivari Professional Development Schools (PDS) receive unrivaled education and guidance throughout the program. Mentor teachers and CTEL faculty provide PDS students in-depth feedback and guidance on their development as effective classroom teachers.
Current research shows teachers prepared through the PDS model are more confident, prepared and ultimately better able to deliver student achievement results from their first year of teaching and beyond. The rural PDS programs emphasize practical classroom applications based on the latest theory, research, and best practices.
See the PDS Cohort Schedule for admission dates.
